WW II German Army - PANZER PRESENTATION PLATE - Knight's Cross Holder - RARE!

You are bidding on an EXCELLENT and VERY RARE WW2 German Wehrmacht Presentation Award Plate!
This orignated from the estate of Oberst Jürgen von Goerne-Plaue, Commander of
Panzer Regt "Brandenburg”.  Usually items like this were presented after promotions or special accomplishments.
Jürgen von
Goerne-Plaue was born on
1908, and entered the Army Service in 1928 with the 14th Reichswehr-Kavallerie-Regiment in Ludwigslust/Mecklenburg.  He joined the Officer School in Dresden and became a Leutnant, and was then promoted to Calvary Captain in 1938.  He was eventually re-assigned to the 2nd Reconnaissance Division on the Eastern Front (Poland) as a Platoon Leader.  In 1940, he was transferred to the Western Front, and at the beginning of the Russian invasion he became Commander of the 29th
Panzer-Grenadier Division.  With this division he captured the Desna Bridge,
200 miles behind the front line and received the Knight’s Cross fro his actions, on October 20, 1941.
In March 1944, he was assigned as commander of the 26th Panzer Regiment, succeeding Generalmajor der Panzertruppe, Kommandierend des XLVI. P
anzerkorps, Smilo Freiherr von Luttwitz...and was then transferred to Italy.
On June 1944 he received command of Panzer Regiment "Brandenburg" and was stationed in the region of Yugoslavia-Hungry.  This battalion
was always engaging the overpowering Soviets.  After an onslaught by the
Soviets on April 16, 1945 (Battle for the Seelow Heights), at the end of April, the remnants of the Battalion with 14 Panthers found themselves in the Halbe pocket with the 9th Army, under General Theodor Busse.
In the fierce fighting that accompanied the break-out, a small number of Panthers succeeded in breaking through to the west. Many members of the battalion were killed in the Halbe area or were captured by the Soviets. Without fuel and ammunition, the battalion’s last four Panthers were abandoned near Beelitz south of Berlin. Most of the battalion’s survivors crossed the Elbe near Tangermünde and were taken prisoner by the Americans.
Promoted to Oberstleutnant in 1945, Goerne-Plauen became a POW on May 9, 1945, and was eventually released June 11, 1945.
Made of solid .800 Silver, this hand-engraved plate is in AMAZING used condition!  It features an cartoon
illustration of him as a commander of a 6 wheel scout car (Sd.Kfz. 231). It is dated March 1939, so most likely this was presented to him as a gift after being promoted in Poland.  Looking through an observation scope, it features the words, "
ob ... ich Prag sehe?"
("if....I see Prague?").
Measures approx. 2.5" x 4" in size, and comes with the 4 original mounting screws.  Was most likely attached to a presentation box or similar.
There is some slight wear, marks, and scratches due to the age, but nothing that take away from the overall appearance.
