I picked this up with a group of military items that came from an old house in SOUTH CAROLINA. The hat is partly hand sewn , and is double lined , not a reproduction, the quality is apparent, the badge has the patina of years of age , but minty. The two buttons on the front , one has a micro chip on the black coating. The inside has a yellowed tag out of cloth that is ink stamped FLINGER BATAILLON Nr. 4, this appears to put it in WW1 r, but I could not find a category for this in WW1. The Edelweiss flower of the moutain troop insignia is sewn on the side. I believe this was used by the Austrian army in ww1 , I found one like it ,it appears to be a rare hat, in minty condition.
